We look forward to seeing all of you soon in Florence for the KDIGO Controversies Conference on the Role of Complement in Kidney Disease. We anticipate an exciting and productive meeting, and ask that you take a moment to read through the information below and the materials provided in the Resources section.


Meeting Venue & Agenda

The KDIGO Complement in Kidney Disease Conference will take place at the Hilton Florence Metropole Hotel from Thursday, September 29 to Sunday, October 2, 2022.  As per the agenda in the Resources section, the meeting will kick off with a Welcome Reception on Thursday, September 29 from 18:00 hrs.  The conference will begin in earnest on Friday morning, September 30 at 09:00 hrs, and wrap up on Sunday, October 2 at 12:00 hrs.  A group dinner is also planned for Saturday evening, October 1, and spouses, guests are welcome to attend both the opening reception and group dinner.

Sponsor Participation

Sponsor participants are responsible for all conference-related expenses including airfare, transportation, and accommodation.  Sponsors may attend all conference proceedings except for the small Breakout Sessions on Friday and Saturday afternoon.  Sponsors are invited to attend the Welcome Reception and group dinner.


Room Reservations

KDIGO has secured a room block at the Hilton Florence Metropole and is making room reservations on behalf of all conference attendees.  There is no need for you to contact the hotel directly.  If you have not done so already, kindly send in your itinerary once travel has been booked.  Please also be sure to let KDIGO know if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, visa requirements, or if a guest will be accompanying you.  If you have already provided your travel details, your room will be reserved accordingly at the Hilton Florence Metropole and a confirmation number will be provided a week or so prior to the conference.


Airport Transfers

Airport transfers are not pre-arranged by KDIGO.  Taxis are readily available at Florence Airport, and offer a convenient option for transportation to and from the Hilton Florence Metropole Hotel.  Many Florence taxis do accept credit cards, but not all are equipped with the POS system needed to do so.  It’s best to ask your driver before beginning your journey and having cash with you just in case.


COVID Testing

Since June 1, all Covid-19 entry regulations for Italy have been dropped, so you do not require a proof of vaccination or a negative test in order to travel to Florence.  If you require a Covid test for your return journey home please let us know.

The KDIGO Travel Protocol & Reimbursement Form is included in the Resources section to help facilitate your planning and booking for this trip.  As noted, KDIGO will reimburse attendees for standard economy class plane tickets.  Should your standard economy airfare exceed USD $2000.00, please contact KDIGO for approval.  KDIGO will cover accommodation costs directly, however hotel incidentals such as minibar or laundry will need to be paid for personally.  Sponsor participants are responsible for all conference-related expenses and will not be reimbursed by KDIGO.
