KDIGO Announces Appointment of Programs Director

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM – Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) today announced that it has expanded its professional resources by adding a new consultant to its staff. As of 1 July, Melissa McMahan will serve as KDIGO Programs Director.

KDIGO CEO, John Davis, said, “We are very pleased that Melissa will be joining us. She fills an important position and expands our capacity to effectively carry out programs that fulfill our mission of improving outcomes for kidney disease patients worldwide. Melissa will focus on KDIGO guideline projects and work groups, and facilitate their work and communication. She will also assist with key administrative duties to help KDIGO build upon our global reputation for excellent programs.

“This step marks the first time since independence that KDIGO has been able to bring on a dedicated guideline liaison. This is key to our continuing growth and to our volunteers’ ability to successfully build our library of guidelines, conference reports and implementation tools,” Davis added.

Melissa McMahan is currently with Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She has been managing 20 continuing medical education programs, including administering CME activities and compliance. She will continue to reside in St. Louis and become part of KDIGO’s “virtual staff”.

Earlier in her career, Melissa served in Kigali, Rwanda with the Food for the Hungry Program. She coordinated the cross-cultural programs for eight US-based universities and advised and trained more than 50 students in study-abroad programs. She received a Master of Science degree from Southern New Hampshire University in International Community Economic Development.

Melissa will support the work of all guideline work groups and will represent KDIGO at major congresses around the world. She will work closely with Michael Cheung, KDIGO Chief Scientific Office, and Tanya Green, KDIGO Communications Director, and will report to Danielle Green, KDIGO Managing Director.

KDIGO is a Belgian foundation committed to developing and implementing nephrology guidelines that improve patient outcomes on a global basis.
