We look forward to seeing you all in Accra for the KDIGO Controversies Conference on APOL1 Kidney Disease. We anticipate an exciting and productive meeting, and ask that you take a moment to read through the information below and the materials provided in the Resources section.

 

Meeting Venue & Agenda

The KDIGO Conference on APOL1 Kidney Disease will take place at the Accra Marriott Hotel from Thursday, April 25 to Sunday, April 28, 2024.

As per the agenda in the Resources section, the meeting will kick off with a Welcome Reception on Thursday, April 25 from 18:00 hrs. The conference itself will begin on Friday morning, April 26 at 09:00 hrs, and wrap up on Sunday, April 28 at 12:00 hrs. A group dinner is also planned for Saturday evening, April 27, and spouses, guests are welcome to attend both the opening reception and group dinner.

Note that sponsor participants are permitted to attend all social events and conference proceedings except for the breakout group discussion sessions on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Visa & Vaccine Requirements

You will likely need a visa to enter Ghana. Please refer to the Visa & Vaccine Details document in the Resources section.

 

Room Reservations

KDIGO has secured a room block at the Accra Marriott Hotel and has made room reservations on behalf of all conference attendees. There is no need for you to contact the hotel directly. If you have not done so already, kindly send in your itinerary once travel has been booked. Please also be sure to let KDIGO know if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, require any additional documentation in order to obtain your visa, or if a guest will be accompanying you. If you have already provided your travel details, your room is reserved accordingly at the Accra Marriott, and a confirmation email will be sent a week or so prior to the conference.

 

Airport Transfers

Airport transfers will be arranged by KDIGO. More details to come.

 

Social Events

The conference will kick off with a Welcome Reception at the Accra Marriott Hotel from 18:00 hrs on Thursday, April 25.

 

On Saturday, April 27, KDIGO will host a dinner for all conference attendees, sponsors, and guests. Please meet in the lobby of the Accra Marriott Hotel at 19:00 hrs on Saturday, April 27 to bus to Bella Afrik Restaurant. It is a 10 minute drive from the hotel, and no RSVP is necessary.

Reimbursements

The KDIGO Travel Protocol & Reimbursement Form is included in the Resources section to help facilitate your planning and booking for this trip. As noted, KDIGO will reimburse attendees for standard economy class plane tickets and other conference-related expenses after the meeting concludes. Should your standard economy airfare exceed USD $2000.00, please contact KDIGO for approval. KDIGO will cover accommodation costs directly, however hotel incidentals such as minibar or laundry will need to be paid for personally.

Sponsor participants cover all expenses personally, including accommodation and airfare.
